Conductor and cellist Christian Benda is a descendant of the dynasty of the Czech Benda composers from the 18th century. He has performed throughout the world as a recitalist, orchestral soloist, chamber musician and conductor, and has earned critical acclaim throughout his career.
Mr. Benda has toured with Barbara Hendricks, Paul Tortelier, and Josef Suk in North America, Europe, South America and Asia. Soloists performing under his baton included Renee Fleming, Cheryl Studer, Simon Estes, Lazar Berman, Paul Badura-Skoda, Michel Beroff, Michail Rudy, Till Fellner, Francois-Rene Duchable, Cristina Ortiz, Pierre Amoyal, and Boris Pergamenschikow.
Mr. Benda's appearances at international festivals include among others Schwetzingen (Germany), Klangbogen Wien, St eirischer Herbst (Austria), Echternach (Luxemburg), La Roque d'Antheron (France), Prague Spring (Czech Republic), Wratislavia Cantans (Poland)), George Enescu Bucharest (Romania) and H ong Kong Arts.
His repertoire includes chamber music, operatic and symphonic works. It is Mr. Benda's specialty to appear as conductor and as soloist in concertos such as Dvorak's or Schumann's cello concertos, conducting also symphonic works such as Dvorak's New World Symphony or Ravel's Bolero. Christian Benda plays a violoncello signed by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume and a violoncello signed by Giovanni Baptista Guadagnini.
